Best of Houston Eats: Food Roundup
This post technically shouldn't qualify as a "Best of" post, because it features every eating establishment we went to. All four of them. And one of them is Costco.
The first night, we were exhausted driving from New Orleans, so just walked a few steps across the driveway of our hotel to Maggie Rita's, a Tex-Mex restaurant. I had the trio of enchiladas with churro beans - it was decent, but quite salty.
The following day, we stuffed ourselves with the hotel breakfast, had some Kashi bars and wasabi peas in the parking lot of Space Center Houston, then went to Tan Tan restaurant on Bellaire Blvd. We chose it just because we saw a lot of cars in its parking lot; that turned out to be an effective strategy because the food was excellent! I had Vietnamese barbeque, where pork and chicken were super tender and flavorful. And shared a kailan and shrimp liang mian huang, which unlike most renditions was not overly gooey or salty.
We asked the hostess for recommendations of pho places to go in the future. She recommended Pho Saigon further down on Bellaire... next time!
Like I said before, the Homewood Suites across from the Galleria is a great hotel - everything's new, the rooms are huge, staff is friendly. The free breakfast is the most bountiful I've ever come across. Eggs, potatoes, sausage, fresh fruit (not from a bag), real oatmeal (not instant), make-your-own waffels. This is probably what caused us not to eat a lot in Houston!
Final meal in Houston: samples at Costco. A little pound cake here, some coffee over there, and a lot of lasagna (seriously look at the portion size below)... that's lunch!
