Lodging Review: Sheraton Iguazu
Second in a series of "catch up" Lodging Reviews from the last 2 months.
From $14/night hostel in Buenos Aires, I upgraded to $300/night hotel at Iguazu Falls. I was a bit apprehensive about the Sheraton because the Tripadvisor reviews of it were rather negative (old, tired, etc.). I couldn't disagree more - I thought it was worth every penny.
I actually didn't expect breakfast to be included, but a huge spread was available in the restaurant every morning. So huge, I smuggled out some food every morning for dinner later. And you could get some waterfall views from your seat too: that vertical cloud is the mist from the falls. And yes, my juice is green - it was a delicious celery-parsley juice, lightly sweet and highly refreshing.
I asked nicely when I checked in and got upgraded to a waterfall-view room. The room itself was really nice, bright and cheery - I think a step above a lot of Sheratons in the US, which I do think are often old and tired.
The best part about the hotel though, and my primary reason for booking it in the first place, was location. You just can't beat going on a morning walk before the tour groups arrive, come back for a refreshing shower, and then go back out in the afternoon for a boat ride under the falls, and come right back to shower again. And I definitely couldn't have hiked the Macuco trail as early as I did, while the animals were still around if I stayed in the town of Puerto Iguazu.
