Street Market in San Telmo

Today I had planned on going to Colonia, Uruguay for a day trip, but unfortunately the return ferry was fully booked! I knew there was a Sunday market in the San Telmo neighborhood, so I went to check that out instead.

People have compared San Telmo to East Village in NY - a bit gritty, artsy, pretty... It reminded me of Notting Hill, probably because of this Sunday market which was just huge - up and down the streets which were closed off to cars!

Again, tango in the streets! This Sunday market must be in a lot of guidebooks, because it was packed with tourists. Not to say that locals weren't there as well, though.

I'm not a big souvenir person, but when I saw this I knew I had to get it. It's basically a styrofoam cutout of a chicken, inside of a cylinder with a string attached to the bottom. You pull on the string to make clucking noises! I got a green one, of course.
