McDecor: Istanbul edition
The first McDecor post since the US roadtrip! The McDonald's in Argentina, Brazil, and South Africa didn't tempt me inside, with menus largely the same as the US. But Turkish McDonald's had some interesting menu items...
There's high culture all over Turkey, and the McDonalds in Istanbul certainly kept pace. The one in the Sultanahmet neighborhood had a nice al fresco dining area, decorated with a classical motif. Inside, there were vases inside of wall niches.
More interesting was the McDonald's in the Sirkeci neighborhood, which was decorated exclusively with Kandinsky posters.
Food-wise, the special Turkish items were okay, but nothing I'd need to have brought over to the US menu. The McTurco is basically a flatbread sandwich with two seasoned meat patties, and spicy sauce.
The Double McKöfteburger (on the right) had those same seasoned meat patties, the same spicy sauce, a slice of cheese, and is served on an herbed bun. The big shocker was the Chicken McNuggets: they're different from the ones in the US! See how their breading is all jagged, not smooth. They're also a bit smaller, since the breading adheres directly onto the meat (which also seemed firmer in texture), vs. puffing out. Overall, not as good as the American McNuggets.
