Hot Weather Cooking: fruit slushies
Since it is warm and muggy out, and my kitchen IS my bedroom and workspace, I am trying to avoid turning on the stove or oven. Entirely. So what have I been eating the last couple of weeks? Here's one that I've been having once or twice a day.
Fruit Slushies. The Albert Heijn has a nice selection of frozen fruit - mango, pineapple, boysenberry, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry. I had bought them to make smoothies (with milk, yogurt, etc.), but then I discovered just pouring some fruit into the beaker, adding water, maybe adding some ice cubes or sugar, and just blending. So refreshing.
My favorite combinations so far are mango+strawberry or only mango and only strawberry, and various combinations with pineapple. Interestingly these are also the least expensive in the store. I now avoid the boysenberry and raspberry because the hard parts get stuck in my teeth.
I happened to have some extra straws from a project I did. They really make drinking thick drinks much more special and enjoyable. Especially when they have 3-D decorations!
