Lody in Krakow
I was impressed with how many ice cream stores there were in Poland, especially in Warsaw and Krakow. Many of the places featured what looked like soft serve, but achieving greater heights in spirals than Dairy Queen. I wasn't tempted by these, since I could kind of guess what they would taste like.
But it was so hot when I was in Krakow, and this store just south of the main square Rynek Główny was promising "100% Natural" ice cream without preservatives, dyes, or harmful additives.
I got the "bakaliowe" flavor which was translated as "delicacies," because I had no idea what it meant, and coffee which is my favorite flavor of ice cream. I didn't care so much for the Bakaliowe, which turned out to have a fruity flavor - I learned later that it is made from raisins, other dried fruit, and nuts. The coffee was great - not sweet at all, real coffee flavor. What I liked about both was that they were truly refreshing, very light, almost watery, not cloying.
I went back the next day and got the coffee again, as well as "smietankowe," or "creamy," and blueberry. The coffee was again super, and the creamy was cream-flavored yet still light and refreshing. The blueberry was so "natural" that it wasn't very sweet at all. It was good, but I guess fruit-flavored ice creams usually aren't my favorites anyway.
