Calabaza!

Calabaza!

Across the street from the apartment I'm staying in, is a bakery that's conveniently open late hours and on Sundays too.  I saw they had these pumpkin desserts, and wanted to try a slice.  Turned out that I got a half of one for only a little over €3.  And it turns out that while it can be eaten like dessert, it's not a pastry - it's just baked calabaza!

Its straight sides make it look so cylindrical, like it came from a springform pan, and the slight translucency of the meat makes it look kind of like pumpkin rice cake in China.  I'm not sure exactly how it's prepared, but it was so sweet and luscious.  It's amazing how some of the most delicious things are the simplest.
