I was most excited about the eating in New Orleans, and the city definitely did not disappoint.
The oysters at Acme Oyster House were savory and tender, even unadorned with sauce and lemon. The service was not very good though, the server rolled her eyes when I asked for an extra spoon.
Beignets at Cafe du Monde were a treat, as advertised. Nice and chewy. And the servers were all Asian!
Best find: Mandina's. We took a street car up through many dark blocks of Canal St to arrive at this lively neighborhood restaurant. The service was so friendly, and it felt nice to step away from the tourist area for a while.
Best picnic food: we each had a quarter of this muffuletta from Central Grocery for breakfast (look how big it is! my camera case is there for scale). Then had the remaining quarters for lunch when we went to Oak Alley Plantation.
