Best of New Orleans Eats: Po' Boy Edition
My favorite type of food in any culture is the sort of "casual eats" like sandwiches, dumplings, Asian buns... So of course in New Orleans I needed to try the various po' boys!
Most filler: Shrimp and Oyster Po' Boy at Acme Oyster House. It wasn't bad, it just had much more fried batter to shrimp/oyster ratio, such that each bite was full of fried crunchy stuff vs. meat.
Most bloating-inducing: Famous Ferdi's Special at Mother's. How can you go wrong ordering the first item on the list? Maybe it was because they ran out of roast beef and used this other beef instead, the sandwich was really wet, not particularly flavorful, and made me just feel bloated afterwards.
Best overall: Oyster Po' Boy at Mandina's. The oysters were honest-to-goodness large and juicy under the fried coating. And can you believe this is only a HALF portion?
