Wildlife at Iguazu Falls Part 4: Jackpot!
Today was my last half-day at Iguazu Falls, so I woke up early in hopes of seeing some more wildlife, in particular, monkeys and toucans. I went on the Macuco Nature Trail, a trail that not a lot of people do probably because 1) it doesn't go to any spectacular falls, 2) it's not paved, 3) it's not near any park train stop.
It was actually quite exhilarating to hike this, because there were warnings that there could be jaguars on this trail! So I was actually sort of afraid in the beginning, but also thrilled. Never before have I heard a forest so alive with different screeching, clicking, singing, calling. I heard some rustling noises and saw the leaves' shadows move, and looked up to see a group of monkeys hopping from one tree to the next! They were the Brown Capuchin.
Hearing some knocking noise, I saw two woodpeckers with red heads. The one on the right eventually chased he one on the left to another tree trunk! The visitor's center display called these carpintero grande.
I got to the end of the trail, the Arrechea Waterfall, and on my way back, I saw my toucans! I had actually heard them on the way in, but didn't realize until I actually saw them that they were toucans. They have a very fast, audible, flapping of the wings. It sounds like something big is flying around. My pictures of it unfortunately aren't that great, since they are pretty blurry. But you know what they look like - picture Fruit Loops!
Seeing this wildlife was a great way to end my time in Argentina. I really can't wait to come back!
