Trip Report: BKK-SIN
Flying from Bangkok (BKK) to Sydney (SYD), I had a stopover in Singapore (SIN) since I was flying Singapore Airlines.
In BKK, I decided to first try out the Thai Royal Orchid Lounge, since I have my Star Alliance Gold status. I'd been before on my trip to Myanmar last year, and remembered the lounge to be the same. Comfortable and plentiful seating in the purples and fuchsia corporate colors. And a very nice selection of pastries and fruit. I had noodles, quiche, spinach pastry, green tea bun, and a deep fried toast with minced meat inside.
I then headed over to the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, which is only open to its First and Business Class customers (not Star Alliance Gold members). Dare I say, the Singapore lounge edged out the Thai lounge on its home turf? Even more stylish with lots of privacy dividers, make your own Hainan chicken rice, and my favorite feature, young coconuts for coconut water! I had to have one last one before I left Southeast Asia.
I then boarded my Boeing 777-200, which is configured for regional flights. As you can see, business class on this aircraft is like a cross between international business class and domestic first class on US carriers. You can recline, but only so far.
We were served dinner. None of the choices really appealed to me since I was looking for something light (after having eaten so much in the lounges). I chose "braised chicken" not knowing what it was. Turned out to be a coconut milk based curry. Very tasty, VERY spicy, but I couldn't finish it since I was so full and the curry was a bit heavy with the coconut milk.
