Park Hilaria: Americana in Holland part 1
In my last couple of weeks before leaving Eindhoven, a large stretch of a major road running along side the Technical University Eindhoven (TU/e) was closed off. The event? Park Hilaria, a summertime amusement park. Here, each ride is independently owned and operated, with the owners living from campers parked on a lawn at TU/e.
Inside, the atmosphere was what I thought of as a 1950s or 1960s America: innocent fun. Just families, groups of friends, couples hanging out in the summer evening playing games and riding roller coasters. There were shooting games where you win huge stuffed animals.
Large spaces to drink and chat with friends.
Even pony rides!
