SF Eats: Industrial-chic dining in Dogpatch

SF Eats: Industrial-chic dining in Dogpatch

Even though Dogpatch is a quiet and pretty walk down the slope from Potrero Hill, I've only been down there to 1) return the Penske rental truck, and 2) catch the T-line to the Ferry Building.

I had an excuse to go to Dogpatch the other day, to take a factory tour for my manufacturing class. I decided to use the occasion to pay a visit to Serpentine, about whose burgers I'd read rave reviews, and Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous, an ice cream shop. It turns out that they're located right across from one another: Serpentine is in the corner of the brown building on the left, and Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous is in the gray building on the right.

First, lunch at Serpentine.

While I was waiting for my burger, a plate of bread and butter came out. About the burger and fries:

Likes

- minimally dressed with pickled red onions and cucumber

- shoestring fries very crisp.

Dislikes

- how the burger patty is so much smaller than the bun. Make the patty thinner so each bite has some beef!

- I ordered the burger medium rare, and the middle of it was not just pink, it was raw (as in, it had that slimy texture).

Overall, though, I would still come back and try other things on the menu. The quality was good, service was friendly, and there was no wait for a table.

After my factory tour, I headed back to Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous to get fortification for the walk back up the hill.

Here, I tried three flavors: halva (a sesame brittle candy), marscapone, and burnt sugar. My favorite was halva, probably because I will like anything that's nutty in flavor. The portion size was enormous - I thought each scoop would be a lot smaller, and indeed it was a lot to finish. I'd definitely go back to try their other sizes.
