Farmer's Market Bounty: July
Though we get the CSA box, I find that there isn't enough fruit in it, especially given the bounty of fruit in the summer. Recently, I found out how easy it is to bike to the Ferry Building Farmer's Market on Saturdays with my trusty Dutch bike, since it's actually along the same route I take to get to the Transbay Bus to work. So now I get a beautiful bike ride along the bay, in addition to shopping at the wonderful farmer's market.
The only stand I have gone to again and again is Hamada Farms, where I get these stone fruits. I like it when the inside of peaches get speckly. Nature's beauty indeed.
Yesterday, I got white peaches, nectarines, and also these pluots of the "Dapple Dandy" variety. I love the name, and they have this beautiful white "wax bloom" on them, the fruit's natural wax, which tells you they haven't been handled very much since they came off the tree.
