London Eats: Dishoom
I met up with a friend in hip Shoreditch, at Dishoom, "A Bombay Cafe in London" as they call themselves. It's kind of a hip Indian place but not in the vein of minimalist white interiors punctuated by saturated colors. This is kind of more like a Disney representation of a humble cafe in India, with really good food and a nice atmosphere (although a bit loud).
While waiting (complete with the buzzer that flashes when it's your turn), I had a Limca Collins at the bar. Here's the description: "Old Tom Gin with fresh lemon, lime, orange, salt, mint and coriander. Replete with Limca, India’s lemon-free lemondrink."
We had Gunpowder Potatoes on the left, and Pau Bhaji on the right. I remember the latter from Little India in Toronto a year ago.
We continued with Dishoom Calamari, Murgh Malai (grilled chicken marinated in garlic, ginger, coriander), House Black Daal (extremely creamy texture), and cheese naan ("mature cheddar" inside).
I was bursting at this point, but since I don't know the next time I'll be in London and eating at Dishoom, I decided to keep pace with my friend and order an original chai and a Malai Kulfi on a Stick - creamy ice cream popsicle.
