London Eats: Some old friends
I was really excited to see that there was a Nando's kind of nearby the V&A Museum, so I decided to stop there for lunch before my museum visit. Nando's is a big chain restaurant, but I have really fond memories of eating at Nando's on my round-the-world trip. So out of nostalgia, I knew I wanted to spend one of my few meals in London here!
I ordered a quarter chicken, spiciness level: hot. Next time I'll get medium, since I can better taste the flavors that way. The UK Nando's offer "Creamy Mash" and "Macho Peas" as side options. The Creamy Mash truly was great - very buttery. And the Macho Peas, with parsley, mint, and chili was nice and refreshing. I'm glad it wasn't mashed peas.
Coming to Great Britain, I get in the mood for fish and chips. So during my visit to the East End, I stopped by Poppies on Hanbury Street. It looked super popular, so I thought it would be great. It probably was a great fish and chips joint, but I remembered why I don't fish and chips more often. The fish usually has a lot of batter, and so becomes greasy, and the chips are not crunchy on the outside the way I like them. Instead they're quite soft on the outside, making them taste greasy as well.
There were lots of people just eating a big pile of chips stuffed in a paper cone, so clearly it's just my taste preference!
