Sevilla Impressions
My first trip after moving to Spain was to Andalucia - to Granada and Córdoba which I both loved. Then I went a couple times to Basque Country, a couple times to Barcelona, and several times to Madrid. But somehow I'd not yet been to Sevilla, the capital of Andalucia.
I decided to come at the very start of Semana Santa, the Holy Week for which Sevilla is well known. I fell in love immediately!
The city has its famous sites, like the Alcazar, or royal palace.
And its cathedral too... The orange blossoms in the courtyard and around the city perfumed the air, making it especially magical.
But what I like the most about Sevilla are its walkable streets, friendly people (and the Andaluz accent is quite special too!), and fantastic food culture. Spain is a big food destination now, but in Sevilla I find the people really into food, having opinions on the best dishes to get and which restaurants, whereas in Valencia at least people can be quite blasé about food. Finally, Sevilla has a kind of regal sense that sets it apart from other Spanish cities.
Horses are everywhere around the center.
And here are some guys lowering big crosses from the second story of this church. Getting ready for Semana Santa I suppose!
