Sevilla Eats: Café Bar Taquilla
Before coming to Sevilla, I consulted a couple blogs and a map that an Andaluz friend made of Sevilla highlights. One of the spots on this map was Cafe Bar Taquilla, I supposed named after the ticket office ("taquilla") across the street for the Real Maestranza bullfighting ring.
The feeling of the place was super local, with lots of regulars striking up conversation with each other and the servers, and lots of local policemen. The server at the bar first spoke to me in English, and when I responded in Spanish, we continued in Spanish. He told me that his English was very bad (it wasn't), to which a neighboring customer concurred.
He suggested things to get, for example a bit of grated tomato on the ham sandwich, and also an orange juice ("natural!" he said, meaning fresh-squeezed, to contrast with the boxed kind one often finds in restaurants).
A great way to start the day. I also liked the old-school graphics on their napkins!
