Quarantine Diary Day 18: A Good Food Day
Another breakfast with their special formula!
Starchy vegetable of the day: sweet potato half.
Egg of the day: tea egg 茶叶蛋.
Pair of mini pastries 1/2: steamed rice cakes (a different type from the osmanthus ones yesterday). These get dry quickly after steaming, and unfortunately they were already getting dry by the time I ate them.
Pair of mini pastries 2/2: salted egg yolk buns. These were so good!
Pickled vegetable of the day: these were like big chunks of zhacai 榨菜 mustard tubers
Congee of the day: plain rice.
I somehow got very hungry before lunch and ate two of my oranges.
Today’s lunch included pork belly and quail eggs. The portion was kind of small, especially since the triangular piece of meat had hardly any meat.
I loved this dish, celery and shredded 豆干 and shredded pork.
Fish section (crosswise).
Leafy greens.
Dinner came early, at 5:40pm, but unfortunately because of work, I didn’t retrieve it until an hour later, so it was fairly cool by the time I ate.
I love how much leafy greens I get now at Tian Lin Hotel.
This next dish, I didn’t know which animal and what part of it this is. (My mom just informed me it’s pig’s trotter, which I suspected, but I though it would have been cooked until much softer in texture.) It was tasty, a little spicy, but the texture was crunchy kind of like cartilage.
It was sitting on a lot of celtuce.
Roast duck! This was tasty, and felt like a treat.
My favorite dish of the night was this one, thin slices of pressed tofu 豆干, salted pork 腊肉, and scallion greens. I think I’ll try to make this at home! It just had the right balance of flavors and textures.
Overall, today was a pretty good food day, where I pretty much enjoyed every meal!
