A forgettable meal at a long-standing fixture of the neighborhood, newly renovated.
With green beans and chicken from the government delivery in hand, together with saffron, chicken broth, tomato, rice from Spain, paprika, beans, and olive oil, I could finally make an approximation of paella valenciana, a paella de raciones alimentarias (paella of government food rations).
For dependably excellent tapas of quality ingredients simply prepared, the no-reservations Bar Ricardo is one of Valencia’s essential restaurants. ***Update: during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to control gatherings and indoor occupancy, Bar Ricardo is temporarily accepting reservations for the first time in their 70 year history! When Preferente (first class) is cheaper than Turista (economy class), why not book the more spacious seat, with complimentary breakfast?
