From feeling powerless in a below-average quarantine facility, to a big step up in living conditions!
The day started with the most comprehensive PCR test, and ended with a scarily red piece of pork.
A delicious Shanghaiese dish for lunch, to a disaster at dinner: as someone commented in my flight/hotel WeChat group, “这饭真是越来越离谱了,” or, “The food is getting more and more ridiculous.”
Halfway through the first 14-day quarantine hotel (before the +7 quarantine hotel), the chef tried a little harder with some more varied preparations.
Finally the weekend! That means it’s laundry day at the Homeinn Selected, and seeing lots of Eileen Gu ads during the Beijing 2022 Olympics broadcast on CCTV.
After more than 24 hours on the road, checking into two weeks at a below-average hotel after passing through a gauntlet of disinfecting wand-wielding hazmat-suited staff.
4.5 hours from parking at the gate to arriving at the quarantine hotel. An almost exact repeat of the arrivals process in 2020.
In December 2020, there was only one United lounge open in all of SFO, a United Club where they had packaged snacks. Now, the Polaris lounge is back open, with its sit-down restaurant with table service.
