Marfa, TX background
I might have jumped into the last post without proper explanation about Marfa. I made sure this was a stop on the road trip, because the artwork at Marfa is something that you learn about in every art history class. Basically, Donald Judd took a liking to the big open spaces in this part of Texas, and bought a bunch of land and buildings (former military use) to live and work in, and also to install his artwork.
He also invited his friends to create artwork (some more site-specific than others) in the space. Like the Dan Flavin below.
