Brazil's love affair with ice cream

Brazil's love affair with ice cream

I really don't think I've seen a country that loves its ice cream this much! Every where I turn, someone's eating an ice cream cone, soft serve, or milk shake.

It's one of the things that surprised me, coming to Brazil. Maybe because there are so many Brazilian supermodels out there, and because this is where all of those superfoods like acai and acerola come from, I expected everyone here to look like a supermodel! After all, this is the home of fio dental bikinis (dental floss bikinis), Barbies (like the Mattell doll, only it translates to "Chelsea boy"), and the Brazilian wax. But in both Rio and Sampa, I've seen men and women of all sorts of different body types, and body hair.

I think one explanation of the different body types is the amount of ice cream that's consumed. At any time of day, the special Sorvetes (ice cream) window at McDonald's has a really long line!

And down the street from the Mont Blanc store on the exclusive Rua Oscar Freire, is the Magnum Boutique! Magnum is the ubiquitous ice cream popsicle brand from Unilever, which I used to buy on street corners in China. But they have their own cafe here in Sao Paulo, staffed by people who, well, look like supermodels.
