SF Eats: San Tung Restaurant
I had to go to the Inner Sunset neighborhood for an errand, and decided to go to San Tung Restaurant for dinner on my way home. I had read about this restaurant, and specifically its chicken wings. I got there before 6pm, and by 5:55 there was already a waiting list going.
As soon as you sit down, the waiters put a plate of very spicy pickled cabbage on your table. That made me really excited!
I ordered those chicken wings, as well as a plate of dumplings - shrimp and leek. The food was good, and I thought to myself, "If I had this food in Cincinnati or Eindhoven, I would be overjoyed." Yet I'm not sure if I would come back here, given that San Francisco has so many other restaurants to try.
The chicken wings were expertly fried, but I thought that the sticky sauce that coated them was too sweet. The shrimp and leek dumplings had a great wrapper, but they might as well have been pork and leek. There simply was no discernable shrimp texture or flavor. When my sister had some of the leftovers at home, she said, "These are vegetable dumplings, right?"
