CSA Box Week 3
I was really excited about this week's box for two main reasons:
1) Citrus!
2) Romanesco!
That's right - the farm that organizes the CSA grows satsuma oranges, which are very sweet, easy to peel mandarin oranges. The three large navel oranges are from another farm. And Romanesco (which I requested as a substitution for radicchio via email), is that pointy green thing in the bottom left, a cross between a broccoli and cauliflower. It can look grotesque, but when it's so tiny it looks really cute.
In all, here were the contents:
- Romanesco
- 3 heads lettuce
- 1 curly kale (ruffly leaf, the Dutch boerenkool)
- 1 dinosaur kale (bumpy leaf)
- mixed chard
- 2 big leeks
- carrots
- satsuma oranges
- 3 mandarin oranges
- 2 Bosc pears
- 1 head of purple cabbage
- 1 small butternut squash
