Felix Gonzalez-Torres to the Rescue
When you're in an art museum and you suddenly feel peckish, it's always a blessing to be in an exhibit with a Felix Gonzalez-Torres installation. I first took one of each flavor, walked around, and then went back for five more. It had been quite a few hours after lunch, and I wasn't due to meet up for dinner for another couple of hours.
In this particular piece, my favorite were the silver-wrapped candies - yellow hard candy with pineapple flavor. The blue wrappers contained purple candies which I thought were some kind of "forest fruit" flavor, as they say in Europe (raspberry, blackberry, blueberry). I couldn't tell what the red candy was - it was not tart at all, unlike a lot of hard candy.
When I worked at the Bronx Museum, we were about to install a Felix Gonzalez-Torres piece, and I remember how hard it was to get the candy. The artist's specifications are for a very particular candy produced only in Italy. The piece we were going to mount used mint flavored candies.
