Trip Report: SFO-JFK Aug 2011
I was lucky to get upgraded again on a p.s. flight - it's rumored that p.s. flights are an endangered species once United and Continental are fully merged to be replaced by a new premium product, so I'm enjoying it while I can.
After an easy BART ride to the airport, I stopped by the Red Carpet Club for some breakfast. The breakfast selection has changed recently, with the mini muffins (lemon poppyseed and banana nut) being additions that I did not notice before. I think my favorite part of the SFO domestic Red Carpet Club are the fun juices that probably don't contain very much of the actual advertised juice: pas-mango, something to do with pomegranates, etc.
The interior hasn't changed.
Choices for breakfast were chive scrambled eggs, apple french toast, and fruit plate. I wanted the eggs, which turned out to be a good preference since I heard the flight attendant say that there were only two french toasts and also few fruit plates, and was actively steering people to the eggs. I liked the seasoned potatoes best.
Baked goods were croissant, bagel, or scone. I had a bagel and asked for a scone later - orange raisin. Both were good. It does puzzle me why the Red Carpet Club should have the bad-tasting bagels that are essentially circular sandwich bread, while the airplane gets fresh, crusty, chewy, and yeasty variety.
I took a nap and when I woke up, the flight attendant came by with the snack basket which had been passed around earlier. She said "don't be shy!" so I took one of each! Barbecue Popchips, apple cinnamon flavored glazed walnuts and almonds (very tasty, wish it weren't artificially flavored), Toblerone, and a mini chocolate chip Clif bar which I'm saving for later.
The personal media players they passed out were upgraded from last time - faster response times. I watched Black Swan, and parts of Mad Men and Anthony Bourdain. Wish the flight was longer in order to rest and watch more TV - flight time was a surprisingly short 4 hours 48 minutes.
