Trip Report: VLC-ZRH-IAD-SAN part III
Transit at Washington-Dulles was surprisingly painless. Dulles is one of my least favorite airports to spend time in, because the United terminal is basically a long, narrow corridor. But the international-to-domestic flow was quite seamless. Then I got to one of the United Clubs and remembered by this is one of my least favorite connecting hubs. Many of the Clubs are on the ground level with little natural light or views, and don't particularly have attractive artificial lighting either.
My final leg was Dulles to San Diego. I haven't flown domestic First in a while, so haven't experienced this particular meal yet (although I read reports on Flyertalk that this is one of the few dishes being served for the past year). There was a smoked salmon appetizer, a salad with romaine, cucumbers, and tomatoes, and chicken, green beans, and rice with a skimpy portion of tomato sauce. I think the serving dishes aren't particularly attractive - for example the smoked salmon could be better presented in a more "open" dish.
I was expecting the made-to-order ice cream sundae, but instead we were served the raspberry (?) ice cream coated in chocolate bonbon that has appeared frequently on United before the catering was merged. I was surprised to see this too! It's just a hemisphere, but they served it in the sundae dishes which was kind of funny.
Before landing there was snack basket, from which I took Popchips and my favorite item, the Emerald glazed walnuts and almonds.
