Trip Report: AMS-IAD-SAN part I
At the gate in AMS, my name was called along with several other passengers to the podium. Uh oh, was I going to go through secondary screening or the security interview again? No! I got a free upgrade to business class! I have no idea why, but I'll take it!
This flight became kind of a United Festival of Salmon. First course shrimp and salmon and salad.
Next, a very tender salmon fillet with balsamic vegetables (thought would be too sweet but actually perfect), and couscous. I think in the past year, I've had the salmon for the main course on every flight on United.
Cheese and crackers. The flight attendant had each passenger pick out the crackers they wanted from the metal bowl using tongs. It was so slippery, I spilled the crackers all over the table. Oops!
Ice cream, almonds, and whipped topping. I had the idea to add some of the instant decaf coffee to make coffee ice cream, but the end result did not taste good at all.
The final dish in the United Festival of Salmon was a chilled salmon and soba dish. The other choice was a charcuterie plate. The soba was a bit gummy, but the salmon was very tender and overall the dish was a nice improvement over the single-choice of wrap, previously served on transatlantic flights.
Though there was salmon in every savory course, I thoroughly enjoyed all of them. No wonder I order the salmon so often on United!
