Sevilla Eats: Taberna Coloniales
For dinner, I headed off to a restaurant called Taberna Coloniales.
I ordered a tapa-sized pork with whisky sauce, expecting just a few bites of this typical Sevilla specialty. Instead I got this huge plate! The mound of garlic on top was very tasty, but I have to say it was swimming in oil, which was not to my taste.
The waiter recommended the fried eggplant in salmorejo, which is gazpacho but with bread mixed in to become creamy.
I double-checked the bill to be sure the pork with whisky sauce indeed was tapa-sized, since you can order each plate in different portion sizes, tapas being the smallest. Yes, I got what I thought I ordered! Just 3.95 € for my pork dish, and 2.25 € for the eggplant. In Sevilla, they also bring you some bread and/or breadsticks, and you're charged for this too, kind of like a cover charge.
A tip: I arrived early (around 8:50pm... yes, early for Sevilla!) so was seated right away. But I was leaving, there was already a long wait.
