Sevilla Eats: Pastries of Semana Santa
One of the fun things about going to Sevilla during the time of Semana Santa is being able to try all of the typical sweets of Semana Santa, like pestiños from the convent. Another typical sweet is torrijas, basically french toast. You'll actually find torrijas all over Spain, and not just during Semana Santa. Still, they are eaten particularly during this week.
In Triana, we stopped by a cute pastry shop with a modern take, called Manu Jara. They had these normal looking torrijas along with these tubular pestiños, which were very much unlike the ones I bought from the convent.
Manu Jara calls themselves "artisanal," although it seems that most pastry shops in Sevilla are.
I guess a more "traditional" bakery would be Pastelería Los Angelitos. I enjoyed the torrijas here as well - and there they are available in this cute, square mini-format. They have different flavors, like regular, cinnamon, and chocolate.
