This is no Brazilian favela. It's interesting how a lot of cities now offer tours of their shantytowns, and I thought the Soweto (South West Township) of Johannesburg would compare to Rocinha in Rio.

In my two weeks in Brazil, I have to say that the food I've tried is generally over-salted, oily, and without nuance (if savory), or too sweet (if a dessert)...the big exception being the natural fruit juices which I love. Not to say that eating here isn't fun, courtesy of the snack foods that are in abundance...

Today I saw a very different kind of built environment compared to the concrete Avenida Paulista. The shopping street of Rua Oscar Freire is in the Jardins neighborhood, and is often compared to Rodeo Drive in LA, and Newbury St in Boston.
