Ode to German Automobiles
Between the Brandenburg Gate and Museumsinsel in Berlin, is Unter den Linden, a famous boulevard. It's quite a long walk, but you get to pass Deutsche Guggenheim and Kunsthalle Berlin along the way.
A nice surprise along this street was seeing two odes to the German Automobile. One was the Volkswagen Automobil Forum. Nominally a showroom with salespeople, it also has displays of Volkswagens throughout the ages, as well as a Movenpick cafe inside. All VW Group companies were represented (Bugatti, Bentley, Skoda, Seat) except Audi.
Across the street was the Mercedes Benz Gallery, which had a cafe called "Daimlers" where you could order things like Currywurst with champagne, or the Daimler Lunch with a lobster soup, main, and champagne. "Large selection of champagnes" is one of the selling points.
Here Mercedes Benz is promoting both their heritage models as well as their tie-in with the Sex in the City franchise. Standing outside of the building looking in, you hear quotes from movies throughout the decades referring to people driving in Mercedes.
