Trip Report: VLC-FRA-SFO

Time for a jaunt back to California! On this trip I chose Lufthansa for the transatlantic sectors because the schedule worked out the best for this quick trip: allowed me to arrive in San Francisco with half a day ahead of me free, and depart from San Diego after lunch.

Morning snack VLC-FRA.  Half of a turkey salami and cheese sandwich, very filling. The other choice was a blueberry yogurt.

Breakfast part two in the FRA Senator Lounge: 酸辣湯 (hot and sour soup!) with chicken, and the typical German breads with cold cuts and cucumber.

First time on the A380! This one was named "Frankfurt am Main," and the pilot said it was the first A380 delivered to Lufthansa.

After beverage and crackers, lunch was served. The chicken piccata included pretty big pieces of chicken breast over spaghetti. Accompaniments included a roll, cheese, salad with basil dressing in a cute little pot, apple crumble (delicious!), and chocolate in the shape of the Lufthansa crane logo. Even though it's still economy class food, Lufthansa's food is a few cuts above United's food, in quality and importantly, presentation.

Stairs down to the main deck. I sat in a mini-cabin of Economy Class on the upper deck. I highly recommend this mini-cabin, because there are few rows all served by the same flight attendant. That means there isn't a big delay between drink service, meal service, and collecting trash. Plus there's a lavatory on the upper deck, and if that's occupied, a whole bank of lavatories at the bottom of the staircase awaits.

Mid-flight snack. Chocolate creme filled chocolate cookies.

Pre-arrival meal was a hot service: fried chicken and red sauce, two carefully placed broccoli florets, rice. Kaiser roll and vanilla pudding with chocolate sauce. Very nice lunch!
