Trip Report: SFO-FRA-VLC part I
Back to Valencia, once again!
Upper deck of Boeing 747s are just a magical place - private and quiet. I especially love the window seats with the seat-side storage. Definitely makes up for the lack of storage space around United's business class seats.
After the warm nuts (and offers of seconds), the appetizer was smoked salmon and yellow sun-dried tomato, along with a salad with olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, and vinaigrette.
Main course was a salmon and crab meat dish, served with collards, and barley. I had this dish last time I flew from the US to Europe on United and liked it both times. (Now that flight was a bargain! A fare war erupted on US-bound flights from London, so I flew from Europe to California and back in business class for $1600!)
This was the cheese course - it was pre-plated, which is how it is served on United's 3-class services. On 2-class services, it's portioned at your seat. I liked the goat cheese on this platter (as always), and the grapes were nice and crunchy.
For the ice cream sundae, I chose Oreo cookie bits and whipped cream.
Then I slept for around 5 hours! The United seat is definitely one of the most comfortable I've been in. It's cushy in a way that other seats are not. I woke up and got some things from the mid-flight snack offerings, including a turkey sandwich (did not taste the advertised cranberry cream cheese), mini Toblerone, and a box of truffles.
Breakfast was a choice of continental breakfast (which is basically everything on this tray except the main course), cereal and banana, or this tray with a main course of fluffy cheese omelette, broccoli potato gratin, turkey and sun-dried tomato sausage, cherry tomato. It was accompanied by a cinnamon roll and vanilla "Greek" yogurt.
Service from the flight attendants was excellent on this flight! I wrote in to United especially commending one of the flight attendants Frank, who was particularly attentive and gracious, and always addressed passengers by name. It was nice that he thanked everyone individually at the end of the flight for our business.
